Currently, the Centre is run out of a wing of the Kitimat General Hospital. The hospital is due to be replaced and razed in 2002. Because of this, our Board of Directors began makng plans to move the Centre to a different location.

In 1997, the board of directors purchased Pine Plaza, a strip mall on Tweedsmuir Avenue. Pine Plaza is situated on 1.02 acres of land. It is situated across from a public elementary school, in a residential area, and is the only commercial property in the neighborhood. It is situated on a corner lot with good access from a main throughway. It is on a bus route and has a large parking area. The vacant .97 acre lot adjourning the property has been donated to the Centre. The accessed value of the combined properties is $285,000.

Our goal was to start a revenue producing business, which would facilitate Centre programs with the future goal of having all services in one building. Since March 1997, the Centre has earned income renting commercial lease spaces at competitive market rates.

After purchasing Pine Plaza, the Board of Directors decided to upgrade the existing premises in order to relocate the current preschool and other early intervention programs. The building would be known as the Family Resource Centre. The renovation of Pine Plaza was budgeted for approximately $625,000.

The vision is for the complex to include group daycare facilities, gymnastics club facilities and office space for a possible café or concession stand or other rental opportunities.
