WILDLIFE

Stewart and the surrounding areas support an abundance of wildlife. During the trip into Stewart it is not uncommon to spot several Black Bears, Moose, and Eagles. If luck is really on your side, you may even catch a glimpse of a Kermode Bear, Wolf, or Grizzly Bear. If you look carefully up in the mountains, you may even see some Mountain Goats.

The best time to view the Bears is during the Salmon runs during July and August. At this time, many Bears, Black and Brown, wander into Fish Creek in Hyder, Alaska to feast on the spawning Salmon. This is a huge tourist attraction and viewing platforms have been constructed along fish creek to watch the feasting bears from a safe vantage point.

Below are some pictures of the wildlife in this area.
