BC Summer Games – Nanaimo, August 1-4, 2002

The numbers don't look all that great at first glance. The host region got 201 medals. We got 18. But, hey . . . Our athletes did great!

Think about it. A total of 48 athletes traveled south to Nanaimo in early August to represent the entire Northwest Zone in individual events at the BC Summer Games, and those 48 athlees brought back a total of 17 medals. That's a little over 33 percent. And that's impressive.

We weren't quite successful in the team events. The competition is a little tighter there. We sent 105 athletes in 13 teams and they came back with a gold in Boys Softball. But that doesn't mean the other 12 teams weren't in there digging and giving it their best.

And that's what these games are really all about. Giving it your best.

A medal is nice, but just getting picked to represent your zone is a major event. A medal is nice, but qualifying for the competition and coming away knowing you gave it everything you had is a feeling that will last a lifetime. A medal is nice, but whether you finished first or last, you're a winner if you were there.

Below are the Northwest region BC Summer Games final results. Sorry we don't have any photos.
