Clarence Michiel Report - November

Clarence Michiel Report

November 7, 2001

PARENT INFORMATION BULLETIN #4

1. TEACHER JOB ACTION

The British Columbia Teachers Federation has served strike notice on the British Columbia Public School Employers' Association and, as a result, we anticipate the Terrace and District Teachers Union will begin to implement Phase 1 of their Job Action Plan this Thursday, November 8, 2001 at 8:06 a.m. During Phase 1 teachers will not prepare or distribute report cards, meet with parents outside instructional time, collect money from students for any of our fund raising activities, distribute newsletters or notices, and a variety of other activities. Supervision in the morning and after school may also be limited. Extra curricular activities such as volleyball and wrestling are still going ahead.

During this period of job action would you please try to have your child arrive at school just before 8:55 A.M. and leave as soon after dismissal in the afternoon. We are trying to ensure adequate supervision during this time and we thank you for your co-operation.

The early dismissal days, Wednesday and Thursday, November 21 and 22 will be full instructional days unless the Job Action changes.

There will still be Homework Club, Young Maidens and Young Warriors. If your child is attending one of these please arrange to have them picked up as soon as it is over as there will be no supervision.

We will try to keep you informed of any new developments.

2. STUDENT RETAKES

In our last newsletter the day for photo retakes was mistakenly stated as Wednesday, November 13. It should have read TUESDAY, November 13. Students who would like retakes can pick up the photo envelopes in the office and return them with full payment on Tuesday. Please note that if you are not satisfied with the photo when it returns you will receive a full refund.

3. PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL NEWS

1. FAMILY PORTRAITS

Saturday is Family Portrait day at our school. If you have booked a sitting please be on time as it is going to be a very busy day. Enter the school through the front door.

2. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR and THE JAR GAME

At last night's PAC meeting we discussed plans for this year's Christmas Bazaar which raises money for the Salvation Army and will be held on Thursday, December 20th. PAC will again be in charge of the canteen and the Jar Table. The Jar Table, which is a big favorite with everyone who attends the Bazaar, involves buying a ticket and then receiving the jar with your ticket's corresponding number.

These jars are filled with a variety of things and are donated by students and their families. Some examples of things found in jars are pennies, candies, chocolates, small toys, stickers, tattoos–whatever appeals to kids!!

So, please start filling and wrapping up your jars and we'll get back to you soon about when to bring them to the school.

Thanks very much!!!
Clarence Michiel PAC
