Riverboat Days 2002: The Great Slingers Race

The Great Slingers Race was its usual hoot. In particular the costumes donned by The Keg waiters from Kitimat. Obviously the judges felt the same. The Keg won the trophy for best costume.

It was a challenge even to the experienced. Drinks were spilled. Glasses broken. Some waiters even returned with empty trays.

The course included the usual table at either end which demanded a 360 each. Two tires aligned for a left-right foot maneuver. A single tire that demanded a left and then a right. And a couple of horizontal ropes that required a simultaneous high step and duck to prevent either tripping or hanging yourself or both.

The top three teams were the Inn of the West (the event organizer), the Skeena Hotel, and the Evergreen Pub. A Kitimat waitress from The Keg topped the singles race, and Paul Walker from the Back Eddy won the manager's race.

As we've already mentioned, The Keg waiters went home with the best costume award. But, then, it's worth mentioning again.
