Riverboat Days 2002: Wild and Wet Wheelbarrow Race & Family Water Fight

What do you do on a hot day? How about a water fight!

What do you do on a hot Riverboat Days day? Have a water fight, of course. And why not? Especially when all the ingredients are provided.

The Terrace Co-Op put together the ingredients. The participants provided the fun.

And it was a race like none other.

Winners? There were none. Losers? There were none.

Well . . . That's not quite right. Everyone was a winner, because everyone had a lot of fun.

The objective was to load a bucket of water into a wheelbarrow and wheel around the course losing a minimal amount of water. It was a trip, though, filled with many liquid hazards.

Obnoxious kids with water cannons . . . Not pistols.

Wooden rails too narrow for the wheelbarrow wheel. That's not fair!

Sadisitic people armed with a loaded and dangerous fire hose.

A crowd screaming for water — not blood. This was a fun thing.

And judges who repeatedly threw out the winner because the loser came in with more water in the bucket than the first to cross the line.

Hmmmh? Slow is good?

Worst of all, though, were those obnoxious kids . . . who got the camera guy wet. Very wet.

In fairness, though, it was on a dare.

"You can't hit me from there."

Wanna bet!

We'll be back next year. Armed with a lazer umbrella, of course . . . And perhaps a towel or two.
